Robert Hudyma
Robert Hudyma Biography
Robert’s fascination with rocks and stones began at the young age of 6 when he traveled across Canada on a family trip and came home with pockets and buckets full. Thus his collecting days began.
After studying Geology at the University of Toronto and Gemology at the Gemological Social of Great Britain, Robert prospected for gold throughout Northern Ontario before settling back in his hometown of Toronto. As a young man, Robert befriended E. B. Cox, one of Canada’s foremost master sculptors. E. B.’s simplistic and whimsical nature has greatly influenced Robert’s work. With the overlap of simple lines and unusual materials to create “fun” works, Robert has found his niche in the sculpting world.
He and his family travel extensively to collect minerals and Robert has an impressive collection of minerals from all over the world as well as the largest collection of Pyrite in Canada.
Robert co-founded Catered Affare, Cuisine and Event Design with his wife, Colleen Walker in 1986 and worked as the Executive Chef for 19 years. He recently retired his knives for his sculpting tools and enjoys working to create a spectrum of colourful pieces, many of which he has collected himself.
He continues to search the world for rough materials of unusual textures and forms of rare and semi precious stones. Robert strives to create playful, touchable pieces that can be enjoyed by all.
