Igor Soinsky Biography
Igor Soinsky is a self-taught, furniture designer/artisan, designing and hand-crafting fine custom furniture since 1994. Igor prides himself on diversity, designing in styles from old world to contemporary, fabricating primarily in the medium of wood using accents of metal, glass, stainless steel and reclaimed materials. Igor uses old and new skill techniques in his furniture design.
Wood species are hand selected for grain, color, and texture, and hand finishing is done to bring forth their natural characteristics and luster for a unique visual perspective. Each piece is meticulously hand-crafted with a keen eye to detail. Igor’s work is focused on providing options to people looking for functional modern furniture that differs from what is produced for the mass market, a way to get something different to accent a room and turn the space into a special place.
Igor enjoys the challenge of building a piece that will offer a sense of discovery, by including small details to be discovered over time by a careful eye and a sensitive hand. Ultimately, each piece is a representation of the balance between the questions of function, structure and aesthetics.
Igor is primarily self-taught through books and journals, as well as trial and error experimentation and specialty workshops. He currently operates a one-man shop near Orillia, Ontario. Commissions of his work can be found in private residences and commercial interiors located as far away as USA, Russia, the Middle East and Europe.
